Christiania Jazzband

The Christiania Jazzband was established in 1970 and is dedicated to play the music from New Orleans at the end of the 1920-ies and in the beginning of the 1930-ies.

The bands repertoire consists of tunes from that period, originally recorded by jazz greats like Louis Armstrong, Luis Russell, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson a.o.

The band has participated at jazzfestivals in Warzaw, New Orleans, Sacramento, Edinburgh, Breda, Enkhuizen, Silkeborg, Maribo, Molde, Kongsberg, Sildajazz, Oslo and Copenhagen this summer (2011).

Christiania Jazzband has had the great pleasure in presenting well recognized musicians like Dick Hyman, Ralph Sutton, Kenny Davern, Dan Barrett, Duke Heitger, Joe Muranuyi, Benny Waters (all from US) in addition to Roy Williams (UK), Bent Persson (Sweden) and Erik Andersen (Denmark).

Peter Opsvik and Jan Kristiansen have been with the band since it's inception in 1970.
